Five Healing Concepts for the Mind

When we think of healing, one may think it is when there is a wound on the body, or there was some form of disease in the body; remember, God made us holistic.

According to first Thessalonians five and verse 23 says,

And the very God of peace sanctify you, and I pray God, your whole spirit soul and body be preserved blameless into the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Frequently, when one is hurt emotionally, the pain is not seen. Then there are flares of misplaced reactions, and persons are like; what happen? The many times tears shed in loneliness or disappear, then the question often come, why? Why did this happen? There is a struggle to escape the turmoil of emotion that drives the spirit, and if healing does that take place, the consequences can be detrimental? One may wonder how a person becomes a psychiatric patient. Or why did they commit suicide?

The thing is, curing the spirit is not that easy.

People want to feel loved and affected. Sometimes society throws out such bitterness on people in various nature and severity. There is more criticism than care or praise at times. Then persons can be bias self-serving, self-centered, and unaware of others feeling. However, one has to be strong in the personality and morals one stands for. No one wants to feel ignored or left out. It is impressive how created with that inner nature of wanting to feel honored. That is why we show our appreciation of others. Losing that caring part of us comes from prolong abuse without any healing. Sad to say, many are at the mercy of the wicked devices of the enemy whose only intent is to kill us. When the enemy comes and whispers lies, one believes, they gradually lose the essence of who they are and their importance in life. We have to stand our guard to the things we give ear. Not because someone thinks differently of you, you should take offense. The moral one holds speaks about their essence at the core. As children of God, one does not indulge in immoral acts as that is against the principles of Christ. Being Christ-like calls for separation; hence one will not fit into every crowd.

“You will keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you. Because he trusts in you” Isaiah 26:3

We are encouraged to put our trust in God and keep our minds on him. God tells us who we are and the blessing he has for us. It is striking a balance with emotions finding peace. Mental battles fought with every challenge faced in life make it is easy to catch up in self-pity if one feels out of control, but meditation is a good thing to refocus and seek God’s guidance. It is positive thinking, fostering God’s promises that bring hope, eliminating the sense of hopelessness. Pursue happiness and push aside that which corrupts.

And the peace of God which surpasseth all understanding will guard your hearts and mind through Jesus Christ.

Philippians 4:3

We need that protection for our hearts because wounded hearts take time to heal, and some do not heal.

1. Do not harbor unforgiveness

For the mind’s safety sake, it prevents one from entering a place of uncontainable disruptive emotions. I have seen persons hold a heart of unforgiveness that leads them to bitterness. The mind is continuously seeking only the bad, and nothing good desired is a dangerous mindset. The negativity chips away at the very core of the person, eventually leaving them empty. There is no substance in how they relate and care for others because a festered root of unforgiveness leads to despising. One may look on and asked what happen? He or she was so lovely and caring. One may think forgiving weakens, but it is the opposite. It takes a healthy person to forgive, embrace and rebuild.

2. Seeking forgiveness

People will do one wrong or vice versa. However, one will be amazed at the relief when shown compassion. Going to Christ and asking His forgiveness, the feeling is overwhelming because of the many wrongs, yet we are pardon. Putting away pride and asking for pardon is in line with the scripture that said if one has done you wrong, seek his forgiveness. When being crucified, Jesus set the perfect example and said forgive them father, for they know what they do (Luke 23:34). Letting go is not easy, but it is what brings healing. Image an open wound that one keeps picking at daily. Indeed it will not heal. It is even worse if the wound has debris that not cleaned, resulting in an infection that takes longer to heal and possible amputation. Do not give in to emotions that cover the heart and soul in the spiritual, eating away at the tenderness and mercy. Rooting out infectious attitude is imperative to the healing process.

3. Ask God for forgiveness

For “who has known the mind of the Lord that he may instruct Him?” But we have the mind of Christ.” 1 Corinthians 2:16

I have heard the saying, “God will not forgive me.” One may or may not have said those words, but to many, this is real. God has proven He is a compassionate God, who died on Calvary that should say it all. There is the opportunity to speak to Him directly, no longer going through a ‘priest,’ as Christ is the High Priest. The chance for burdens to be lifted is at one’s cry. One has to take that step in asking for eradication of a messed up life, cluttered with the works of the flesh (Galatians 5:19-21).

4. Find time for yourself

“Wow! I am so busy. I do not have enough time.” No time for self is a crisis. The body needs time to be revitalized. One may have seen someone just snapping at everyone and everything and think what is wrong with her? Chances are they have been working many hours there is barely time for a good nap. The principle of rest was created by God when He rest on the seventh day. Christ also said, enter into His rest. It is obvious we need rest. In the working world, it is called “burnout.” There is a need for meditation and relaxation. Take the time to read an inspirational book, faith-quotes, and most of all, the Word of God.

Remember, in Genesis, God had a plan and executed it well. He created the world in 6 days then rest. The question is, how is the strategy going? There has to be balanced, or else the sanity elements will be disturbed, thus losing equilibrium. Remember to write the vision and make it explicit—pencil in that spa day or that massage. What about some inspirational songs or poems.

5. Allow your loved ones to love on you

Shutting the door on those who one loves may not be the smartest thing. It is an incredible feeling, bond on a regularly. There is an opportunity to express one’s concerns and share the passion for great things in life. One wants someone to celebrate their wins with or cry when faced with trying times. When diagnosed with breast cancer, there was a need for friends and family, and they were there. If ties were, cut with them, where would I have turned? Yes, family members and friends had done me wrong, but I chose to forgive and keep the relationship going.

Bless the Lord, O my soul, And forget not all His benefits

Psalm 103:2
